About
Sponsored by Health Care Providers Association, this dedicated 1-hour professional development session is for providers looking to understand opportunities and funding pathways beyond the NDIS.
The NDIS is not the only system funding disability support, attendant care, rehabilitation and long-term assistance in Australia.
Across Australia, people who acquire serious or catastrophic injuries through motor vehicle accidents and other circumstances may receive funded care through state-based accident insurance, catastrophic injury, lifetime care and other government-funded schemes.
For established NDIS and SIL providers, this creates an important question: Could your organisation operate across other government-funded care systems?
This dedicated provider session introduces the broader funded-care landscape and examines what disability organisations need to understand before considering diversification beyond the NDIS.
Providers will gain an introduction to Queensland's National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland (NIISQ) together with an overview of comparable accident, catastrophic injury and lifetime-care arrangements operating across Australia.
Importantly, these systems do not necessarily operate like the NDIS.
They may have their own provider registration and approval processes, service authorisation arrangements, governance and compliance requirements, documentation and reporting expectations, workforce standards and approaches to funding care and support.
WHAT WILL THE SESSION COVER?
The session will explore:
-
Government-funded care pathways operating beyond the NDIS
-
Accident, catastrophic injury and lifetime-care schemes
-
NIISQ and the Queensland catastrophic injury care environment

Comparable state-based schemes across Australia
-
Provider registration and approval pathways

FOR NDIS & SIL PROVIDERS CONSIDERING DIVERSIFICATION
Moving into another funded-care environment involves much more than identifying a new funding stream.
Providers need to understand whether their workforce, governance, systems, clinical capability, risk management and service model are appropriate for the people they may be supporting and for the requirements of the relevant scheme.
The session will help organisations begin asking:
-
Is our organisation ready?
-
Do we have the right workforce and competencies?
-
Can our existing governance and compliance systems operate within another funding environment?
-
Do we have the capability to support people with catastrophic and complex injuries?
-
What additional registration, approval, reporting or organisational requirements could apply?
-
And importantly — is entering another funded-care system appropriate for our organisation?

Please note: Beyond the NDIS: Accident, Catastrophic Injury & Government-Funded Care Provider Pathways is a separate provider-only professional development session and does not form part of the Hospital to Home Cross-Sector Roundtable.
